Early last Sunday morning, I took great comfort in God’s promise never again to flood the whole world… when I walked into our church foyer and stepped into a vast and growing pond!
As it turns out, a little plastic nut on a toilet supply-line is a pretty important item! And alas, in a fallen world, plastic nuts eventually wear out. A leak in our rental suite next door quietly sprayed all weekend, covering that floor in a half-inch of water. The leak eventually spilled over into our church facility, soaking our foyer floor, moms’ nursing room, and part of our children’s classroom.
None of it took God by surprise, however. What a great opportunity for us to remember the truth we’re learning from Daniel: God rules! The Lord was gracious to keep all of the moisture out of our sanctuary, and we were able to worship as usual.
But before the service, I got the sweet privilege of watching our church family spring into action. In the hours leading up to the service, many of you showed up to help—hands full of mops, brooms, fans, tools, and rug-doctors; and hearts and mouths full of encouragement. Our deacons provided excellent service as usual; and by God’s grace, they were able to arrange for a professional cleanup crew to arrive and start the work even during our service. I’m so thankful for a church that knows how to pull together in an emergency, with quiet trust in the Lord!
Thankfully, it seems that effects on our facility were not as extensive as they could have been. Never the less, we did sustain some damage (and even more to our rental next door). Please pray as our insurance agents assess the damage this week, and as we make plans toward beginning the repair process.
For now, we anticipate minimal interruption to our regular activities. Worship and prayer meeting will go on this Sunday as usual. Our children’s discipleship hour may need to be modified. We’ll send out informational updates as soon as we have more details.
Thank you again for your trust in the Lord, and your partnership together in serving Him and each other in Christ!
